Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Thursday addressed a large gathering at Gandhigram Higher Secondary School as part of a special awareness campaign focused on drug addiction and child marriage two major social challenges affecting the state’s youth and vulnerable communities.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Saha emphasized the urgent need to combat drug abuse, particularly among adolescents. “In the fight against narcotics, it’s essential to create widespread awareness among young people. Many fall into the trap of drug addiction out of sheer curiosity and lack of knowledge,” he said, urging students and parents alike to remain vigilant and informed.
The Chief Minister also shed light on the persistent issue of child marriage, which continues to affect certain pockets of society. “Child marriage is a deep-rooted social evil. It deprives children especially girls of their education, health, and future opportunities. We must work collectively to eradicate this practice,” he added.
The awareness programme at Gandhigram Higher Secondary School saw participation from hundreds of students, parents, and local community members. The event included talks, interactive sessions, and educational material designed to inform and sensitize the public on these critical issues.
Dr. Saha called for community participation, continued educational outreach, and strong enforcement of laws to ensure the safety and well-being of children and adolescents. “Such initiatives are vital to building a healthier and more progressive society,” he concluded.
