70 companies of Central Paramilitary Force deployed in Tripura


In view of the Lok Sabha elections for two state constituencies scheduled to be held in two phases in the state of Tripura starting from April 19 next, at least 70 companies of central armed police forces have been deployed in Tripura to ensure free and fair elections across the state. 

Addressing a press conference here at Agartala in the office of the state election commission, the Chief Electoral Officer Puneet Agarwal said that the 70 companies of central armed police deployed in the state for the elections are doing area domination, flag marches and patrolling.

A notification will be issued on Wednesday for West Tripura and nominations will be accepted till March 27. The nomination papers will be scrutinised till March 28 and candidates will be allowed to withdraw their candidature till March 30.

He said that for the East Tripura constituency, a notification will be issued on March 28 and candidates can submit nominations till April 4. The nomination papers will be scrutinised by April 8.

“There will be 3,350 polling stations (1,686 in West Tripura and 1,664 in East Tripura) across all eight districts, he said, adding that recently the state has got an approval for setting up one additional polling stations in the Laugang area at Shantirbazar subdivision in South Tripura district to facilitate the resettled Brus in casting their vote.
