PM Modi to Visit Assam on September 8

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Assam on September 8, where he will attend a series of official programmes, including the inauguration of the year-long birth centenary celebrations of legendary musician and Bharat Ratna awardee Bhupen Hazarika.

Announcing the visit, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone for several major infrastructure projects worth over ₹8,000 crore.

Among the key projects to be launched are: Darrang Medical College, a 430-bed facility to be built at an estimated cost of ₹572 crore.  A new bridge over the Brahmaputra River, connecting Kuruwa in Darrang with Narengi in Guwahati. The much-anticipated Guwahati Ring Road, aimed at easing traffic congestion in the city.

The Prime Minister is expected to formally inaugurate these projects during a public meeting at the Government Sericulture Farm in Kamarpara, near Mangaldai. The proposed venue spans over 146 bighas of land, part of which has been allotted for the upcoming medical college.

Chief Minister Sarma made the announcement during a recent surprise inspection of the event site.

PM Modi's visit is seen as a significant push for infrastructure development in Assam and a tribute to Bhupen Hazarika's lasting legacy in the cultural landscape of the state and the nation.
