Assam Rifles and Military Intelligence seizes 1420 kg Marijuana worth Rs 4.26 Crore


In a major crack down on drug traffickers Agartala battalion of Assam Rifles along with Military Intelligence team of Agartala seized 1420 kilograms of Marijuana (Ganja) worth Rs. 4.26 crore at Churaibari CheckPost on Sunday.

According to an official statement, based on the input received from a reliable source of Assam Rifles of a large consignment of illegal processed Marijuana (Ganja) about to be sent from bordering areas of Sepahijala and West Tripura district to mainland India, the MI (Militant intelligence) detachment of Agartala acted swiftly and start tracking the vehicle and the drivers.

Finally, at around 08.00 am on Sunday, the intelligence tip was finally passed to Assam Police and could capture the smuggler at around 11.00 am at the Churaibari Check Post of Tripura and Assam border, the statement added.

Assam Police arrested one individual namely Dewan Kumar who was carrying the consignment from Tripura. A case has been registered vide Churaibari WP GD No.  274 dt 16 Apr 2023, the statement further added.
