CM Dr Manik Saha inaugurates 42nd Agartala Book Fair


Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Wednesday inaugurated the 42nd Agartala Book Fair here at Agartala Hapania International fair Ground and underlined the importance of books in the digital age.

Addressing the gathering of book lovers and people, who thronged the first day of the book fair, Dr Saha said, “The feeling that comes from books cannot be found in any other medium. Therefore, the importance of books is immense even in the current age of technology.”

The chief minister said that things have changed with time. The craze for books may have waned some way or other and the advanced technology can be one of the reasons for this, he said, adding that technology has let the readers read books effortlessly on a computer screen.

This year around 191 stalls have been opened in this fair, where several states including West Bengal, Assam, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and others participated in the fair, while the neighbouring country of Bangladesh have also opened their stall like previous years. 

Deputy Speaker of the state legislative assembly Ram Prasad Paul, Chief Whip and MLA Kalyani Ray, AMC Mayor Deepak Majumder, Assistant High Commissioner of Bangladesh at Agartala Arif Mohammad and others were present in the inauguration programme.
