Union minister of state for Social Justice and Empowerment Pratima Bhoumik on Wednesday flagged off the Agartala Kolkata Special train between Agartala and Kolkata connecting two states, Tripura and West Bengal.

The Agartala Kolkata Special train will run between Agartala railway station at Badharghat and Kolkata railway station in West Bengal once a week. The journey will take 32 hours.

Union minister of state for Social Justice and Empowerment Pratima Bhoumik said Prime Minister Narendra Modi always thinks of innovative ways in which the government can help the people. The Modi government has been working hard on the Act East Policy to ensure infrastructure development. Tripura is emerging as an international trade gateway and logistics hub of the northeast due to developments ushered by the double-engine governments of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the centre and in the state, She added.

The Narendra Modi Government is taking a number of steps for the development of Northeastern States. Unlike the previous governments, it is the Modi Government which is seriously concerned for the welfare and development of the Northeast region to put it at par with the rest of the world. Under the Modi Government the Northeast is witnessing immense developmental works, including road and rail connectivity, Information Technology, women empowerment, and others, she said.
