CPI(M)-Congress holds talk on seat adjustment; no political alliance, says Jiten, Birjit

Agartala, Jan 14: In yet another political development after the TIPRA Motha’s invitation to the ruling BJP’s ally IPFT for an alliance ahead of the crucial assembly election, the opposition CPI(M) party and the Congress held a formal dialogue here at the CPI(M) party office at Agartala on Friday night for seat adjustments.The CPI(M) was headed by the party’s state secretary Jitendra Choudhury and the Congress was headed by the AICC party in-charge for Tripura Dr. Ajay Kumar, while both the parties inched close leaving behind their rivalry.

Talking to tripuratoday.com on Saturday morning, the CPI(M) state secretary Jitendra Choudhury said, “Discussion was held in details for seat adjustments only and there will be no alliance with the Congress party for the ensuing election.” “Our main objective is to defeat the BJP and unseat the party from power in the next assembly election so as to rescue the people of the state from a suffocating atmosphere reeling during the last five years in the state,” he said, adding that the CPI(M) is ready to cooperate with the Congress party on their influential seats.

He said, “Seat adjustment was our main agenda that we discussed in detail on Friday night. We are making all out effort to defeat this fascistic BJP party,” Meanwhile, the Congress president Birjit Sinha told tripuratoday.com that in addition to the dialogue with the CPI(M) party the Congress is also in touch with the TIPA Motha party which needs recognition. Asked about the discussion with the CPI(M) party, Sinha said, “Our state in-charge Dr. Ajay Kumar held talks with the CPI(M)party regarding seat adjustments and we are ready to cooperate with the CPI(M) party to contest the upcoming election. Defeating the BJP is our main agenda.”
