Trump Threatens Renewed Bombing of Iran Over Nuclear Program, Claims He Saved Ayatollah Khamenei

U.S. President Donald Trump issued a stark warning on Friday, saying he would authorize fresh military strikes against Iran if intelligence indicates that the country is enriching uranium to weapons-grade levels. In a fiery post on his Truth Social platform, Trump also claimed he had previously spared Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, from assassination, but expressed frustration over what he described as the Iranian leader’s “ingratitude.”
The remarks come amid heightened tensions following a 12-day Israeli bombing campaign on Iran that began on June 13, killing at least 60 nuclear scientists and top military commanders, according to Iranian officials. Iran says a total of 627 civilians were killed during the airstrikes, which Israel described as a preemptive strike on nuclear and military sites.
President Trump, who had reportedly been considering limited sanctions relief as part of backchannel diplomacy with Tehran, declared he had now “dropped all work” on easing restrictions in response to what he called a “statement of anger, hatred, and disgust” from Iran’s leadership.
“I knew EXACTLY where [Khamenei] was sheltered, and would not let Israel or the U.S. Armed Forces… terminate his life,” Trump wrote. “I SAVED HIM FROM A VERY UGLY AND IGNOMINIOUS DEATH, and he does not have to say, ‘THANK YOU, PRESIDENT TRUMP!’”
