Vijaya Dashami greeting exchange between Pradyot and BJP, Cong, CPI-M leaders triggers speculation of realignment ahead of 2023 poll

Agartala, Oct 06: At a time when the TIPRA Motha party headed by the royal scion Pradyot Kishore Deb Burman is emerging as the dominant force in the hills, speculation of electoral realignment emerged ahead of the crucial 2023 assembly elections in Tripura, after the leaders of almost all the giant political parties including the opposition CPI-M met Pradyot at the royal palace on Wednesday last on the occasion of Vijaya Dashami as was termed by the leaders.

Soon after the former Chief Minister and currently the newly elected Rajya Sabha member Biplab Kumar Deb along with his wife Niti Deb and Union MoS for Social Justice and Empowerment, also the Lok Sabha member Pratima Bhoumik met Pradyot in the royal palace on Wednesday last, the congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman, followed by the CPI-M state secretary Jitendra Choudhury was seen in the royal palace. Pradyot termed the meeting as an exchange of greeting of Vijaya Dashami and not political meet.

The visit of the political leaders in the royal palace unlike previous years of the celebration of the Vijaya Dashami has triggered speculation ahead of the 2023 assembly election as both the ruling BJP party and the Congress headed by Sudip Roy Barman have been persuading Pradyot to forge an electoral alliance for the 2023 poll. However, the approach of the BJP and the Congress seems to be tough enough for this ensuing election, as the TIPRA Motha chief Pradyot Kishore Deb Burman has set a condition to join hands with any national political party except the CPI-M only if the leaders come in writing accepting the demand of ‘Greater Tipraland’.

Earlier, in the recent past the RSS Chief Mohan Bhagawat met Pradyot and his mother Bibhu Kumar Devi in the Ujjayanta Palace prior to the visit of the BJP National President J P Nadda. The ruling BJP is however leaving no stone unturned to win over Pradyot who called for ‘Greater Tipraland’ and is currently leading the Tripura tribal Areas and Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) in Khumulwung with the TIPRA Motha. The BJP made several attempts to win over Pradyot by offering a series of tempting offers.
