National Press Day observed in Tripura

The media's role is imperative in strengthening democracy and transparency in governance and improving the quality of life of people, said Minister for Finance, Planning and Coordination, Information Technology Pranajit Singha Roy on Thursday while speaking at a programme to mark the National Press Day at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhawan organized by ICA Department in Association with Agartala Press Club.

Minister Pranajit Singha Roy said the BJP-led government is “the most media-friendly” and has taken several steps for the welfare of journalists. “The state government believes in the freedom of media. The state government is the most media-friendly. We have taken several steps for the welfare of the media and media persons”, he added.

“Journalists are the fourth pillar of democracy, and their freedom is very necessary. If we don't give them freedom, people will not be able to get proper information. Journalists are the mirror of society, and they show us if we have made any mistakes. They are like referees; they should not take anyone's side and should be impartial and neutral, which is a very difficult task”, he added.

Tripura High Court Justice Arindam Lodh, Secretary of ICA department P.K. Chakraborty, Director Bimbisar Bhattacharjee, president of Agartala Press Club Jayanta Bhattacharyya and secretary Ramakanta Dey were present.
