Forest Food Festival held to promote state’s forest food


In a bid to promote forest-grown vegetables and enhance the income of tribals, the biodiversity board jointly with the Tripura SCATFORM Project on Saturday organised forest food festival here at Agartala Heritage Park.

The Principal Chief Conservator of Forests K S Shetty had inaugurated the programme and said that the festival is focused on enhancing the income of the local tribal communities and to bring the forest-grown food and vegetables into the mainstream of a society.

“The government has taken initiatives to link the lifestyle and food habits of the people with tourism,” he said, adding that the forest food is not only popular among the people of the state, but equally popular among the people of other parts.

Meanwhile, the Additional Chief Conservator of Forests K Shyamal said that the forest food is showing direction in improving the standard of living of the people. He emphasized on forest conservation to popularize forest food.

Member Secretary of Tripura Biodiversity Board Praveen Agarwal, Director of Tribal Welfare Department S Prabhu and other officials of Forest Department were present on the occasion.
