Govt to procure 15000 MT paddy from farmers this season: Sushanta

Aiming to enhance the livelihood of the farmers of the state, the Tripura government has decided to continue procuring paddy at Minimum Support Price directly from the farmers. As part of this, the government in this season will procure at least 15000 MT of paddy, said Minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Monday.
Addressing a press conference here in the conference hall of the civil secretariat, the minister said that paddy will be procured at a minimum support price of Rs 21.83 per kg and the process would continue till July 15.
Paddy will be procured from the farmers in 31 blocks of paddy procurement centers in 6 districts of the state including West, Sepahijala, Khowai, Dhalai, South and Gomati district, he said, adding that the paddy procurement will be officially launched from Jolaibari in South Tripura district.
He further informed that a virtual meeting was held today with SDMs, BDOs, District and Sub-Divisional Officers of the Agriculture Department and various levels of officials of the Food Department regarding the purchase of paddy from farmers at subsidized prices during Rabi season.
Food Minister Sushant Chowdhury said that since the establishment of the current government in the state in 2018, the initiative to purchase paddy from farmers twice a year during Kharif and Rabi seasons was started. Since 2018, a total of 1,92,052 MT of paddy has been purchased from farmers in the state. The state government has spent about Rs. 372 crore, he told reporters.
