Earthquake of Magnitude 6.9 Strikes Bonin Islands of Japan

An earthquake of magnitude 6.9 struck the Bonin Islands of Japan on Saturday afternoon. The epicentre was located off the west coast of the islands, about 875 km south of Tokyo. Weak tremors were also felt in central Tokyo. According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, the quake occurred at around 2.36 p.m, IST, at a depth of around 540 kilometers.
No tsunami warnings have been issued. No reports of any damage or casualties have been received so far.
