Tourism Minister launches pre-paid taxi, autorickshaw services at Agartala MBB airport

The state tourism minister Pranajit Singha Roy on Tuesday launched pre-paid taxi and autorickshaw service from Agartala MBB airport. As per the initial prepaid chart, prepaid services will be available for the arrival passengers to travel to 73 different locations in Agartala city and suburbs.

Addressing the inaugural event here at Agartala MBB airport premises on Tuesday, the tourism minister found the improvised transportation system as vital for the development of the tourism sector of the state. He said, “Development of the tourism industry in the state is not possible without an improved transport system.”

He said, “The government has decided to launch pre-paid services from the airport in view of the reports of disagreements between the passengers and the vehicle drivers on various issues at the MBB Airport.”

“This pre-paid service is also to ease the arrival passengers of the state and abroad on their transportation,” the minister said, adding that the Prepaid Service Management Committee has been formed with representatives from Transport, Defence, Tourism Department, Airport Authority and District Magistrate Office.

He said that this committee will work to resolve any service-related issues in the coming days. A total of 235 auto rickshaws have been registered to provide prepaid services, he said. Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation Deepak Majumder, MLA Dilip Das and  Airport Authority Director KC Meena among others were present in the inaugural programme on Tuesday.
