Domestic benchmark equity indices today ended with losses of nearly one and a half percent, amid weakness in the IT and auto stocks and concerns about global economic trends. The 30-share BSE Sensex tanked 1,190 points, or 1.48 percent, to close at 79,044, while the NSE Nifty50 dropped 361 points, or 1.49 percent, to settle at 23,914.
Meanwhile, the broader market at the Bombay Stock Exchange displayed a mixed trend. The Mid-Cap index ended marginally down by 0.06 percent, whereas the Small-Cap index gained 0.41 percent.
