CM Dr Manik Saha inaugurates 18th regional Saras Mela

Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Friday inaugurated the 18th Regional Saras Mela here at Agartala Hapania international ground to encourage and empower the rural Self-Help Groups (SHGs) of the state. This year the theme of the Saras Mela is "Didi Lakhpati Tripura Agragati".

Addressing the gathering in the fair ground, the Chief Minister said that the government at the centre and the state is working diligently to empower the women through various means. Emphasis is being laid to enrich the rural economy through empowering the SHGs, he said.

The Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM) and Rural Development has been taking care of every woman who has been working hard for a long time with different small and medium businesses or projects of the Tripura Government.

“At a time when the government is constantly supporting the SHGs financially through arrangement of loans from banks for them, Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently announced for Namo Drone Didi – an initiative to provide drones to women-led Self Help Groups (SHGs) to revolutionize agriculture and empower rural women,” Dr Saha said.

Underlining the initiative of the Tripura government in empowering women, Dr Saha said, “Government introduced 33% reservation for women in government jobs and in addition to this for the first time in the history of Tripura, government inducted women in TSR battalion. A total of 137 women are presently inducted in the TSR battalion.”

“Tripura government has decided to establish women police stations in every district of the state to address the issues of women. As of now a total of 9 women police stations were established in all the eight districts of the state,” he said.
