Asian Para Games: India’s overall medal haul surges to 99 comprising 25 gold, 29 silver & 45 bronze


In the Asian Para Games at Hangzhou, India ended the 5th day on a good note as it added 18 medals today taking the overall tally to a historic 99 medals, comprising 25 gold, 29 silver, and 45 bronze. This remarkable feat supersedes India’s previous best of 72 medals, which was recorded in the 2018 edition of the Asian Para Games in Indonesia. Today, Dharmaraj Solairaj secured gold in the men's long jump. He created a new Asian Record & Para Games record with a jump of 6.80. India won its first medal in swimming as Suyash Jadhav claimed Bronze in swimming. He won this in the men's 50m butterfly S7 event.

Earlier, Sheetal Devi kickstarted the day with a podium finish winning gold in the Archery compound open event. The Indian duo Nitesh Kumar and Tarun won gold in men's doubles SL3-SL4 badminton. Suhas Yathiraj, the enthusiastic IAS officer, clinched gold in the men's singles SL-4 category. In men's Badminton singles SL3 event, India dominated with two podium finishes. Pramod Bhagat secured the coveted gold, while Nitesh Kumar brought home the Silver. In the Badminton women's singles SU5 category, Thulasimathi clinched gold defeating China's Quixia Yang, with a score of 2-0. Meanwhile, in the men's 1500m T-38 event, Raman Sharma bagged gold clocking an impressive 4:20.80. In the men's F64 discus throw event, Devendra Kumar clinched gold. Delivering his Personal Best throw of 14.09, Manu claimed in the Men's Shot Put -F37 event.

Archer Rakesh Kumar secured a brilliant silver in the Men's Individual Compound Archery event. Chirag Baretha and Rajkumar settled for silver after losing to Indonesia in men's doubles SU5 while in the Badminton men's singles SH6 category, Krishna Nagar bagged Silver. In the discus throw F37/38 event  Lakshmi secured bronze with a throw of 22.55 meters. In the men's javelin throw F-54 event, India triumphed with a double podium, Pradeep Kumar bagged Silver, and Abhishek Chamoli secured bronze with a toss of 25.04 meters while Laxit in the F-54 category got the bronze.
