Dhalai Police Initiate Action Against Salema PS Officer Over Inappropriate Language With Minor

Agartala, Oct 2: Dhalai Police have initiated action against an officer of Salema Police Station after a departmental enquiry confirmed he used inappropriate language with a minor, the police said in a clarification issued on Thursday. The clarification came after a video of the incident at the police station surfaced on social media.

According to Dhalai Police, a factual enquiry was conducted into the matter, which confirmed the officer's conduct. The clarification also addressed another aspect of the same incident. It stated that during verification, the rider involved had initially failed to produce the required documents and could not provide the motorcycle's registration number.

The motorcycle was subsequently seized, and action was taken under Section 199A of the Motor Vehicles Act, Dhalai Police said. According to the purported video and accounts circulating on social media, the minor had been brought to the police station after being caught riding a motorcycle. When asked for the vehicle's registration number, he reportedly said he could not remember it, following which an officer allegedly used abusive language while questioning him.

The video had drawn concern online over the treatment of minors during police questioning, prompting Thursday's clarification from Dhalai Police.
