Tripura Govt Unveils Pre-Puja Bonanza for Anganwadi Staff, Clears Pending Dues and Hikes Egg Procurement Rates

Agartala, Oct 1: Tripura’s Anganwadi workers and helpers are set to receive a pre-Durga Puja bonanza as the state government announced increased festival allowances, cleared months of pending mobile recharge dues, and approved 55 new rural centres in a major policy briefing by Minister Tinku Roy on Thursday.

Addressing reporters at a press conference, Social Welfare and Social Education Minister Tinku Roy confirmed that the festival grant for workers has been raised to Rs 2,610, alongside an advance of Rs 5,000. "In 2018, the Durga Puja bonus was only 700 rupees, which has been steadily increased to 2,610 rupees today," Roy stated. Additionally, the state has earmarked Rs 2.09 crore for uniform allowances, providing Rs 2,000 per centre for workers and helpers to purchase sarees, while releasing Rs 56.58 lakh to cover pending mobile recharge costs from September through November.

Addressing long-standing operational hurdles in the Supplementary Nutrition Programme, the minister announced a key price revision for children's meals. "The government rate was 6 rupees 25 paise, but after reviewing market prices, we have fixed the egg rate at 9 rupees, and the official order has reached them," Roy said. Moreover, pending feeding bills up to July amounting to Rs 23.39 crore have already been cleared, with August and September dues scheduled for payment prior to the festival.

Highlighting rural child development, Roy noted that 55 new Anganwadi centres were approved under the Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan, taking the statewide tally to 10,534. Under the PM-JANMAN scheme, Rs 2.40 crore has been sanctioned as the first installment to build permanent structures for 83 centres. "If we look back five years, not a single Anganwadi centre had electricity, but today around 3,500 centres have power, drinking water, and sanitation facilities," Roy said. He also noted that 100 centres have introduced English-medium instruction to check falling enrollments.

When asked about regular salary enhancements, Roy clarified, "This is a central government project, and we cannot increase it alone, but we have submitted our demands in Delhi and are hopeful of a nationwide decision soon".
