President Droupadi Murmu has congratulated Indian athletes Mirabai Chanu and Jay Meena for their medal-winning performances at the Asian Games 2026.
In a social media post, the President congratulated Chanu for winning the silver medal in the women’s 49 kg weightlifting event. She said Chanu’s achievement has brought India a weightlifting medal at the Asian Games after 28 years.
Murmu also praised Chanu’s impressive career, which includes medals at major international competitions such as the Olympics, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games and World Championships. She said Chanu’s journey would continue to inspire the younger generation of athletes.
The President also congratulated Jay Meena for securing the bronze medal in the men’s singles soft tennis event. She said his historic performance earned India its first-ever medal in the discipline at the Asian Games.
Murmu expressed hope that Meena’s achievement would inspire young athletes to take up the sport and aim for greater success. She wished both athletes continued success and said their achievements would bring glory to the nation.
