TIPRA Motha Party (TMP) MDC Sujoy Uchoi on Tuesday expressed strong confidence in the NDA alliance ahead of the September 28 Village Committee (VC) elections, claiming that the alliance is set for a clean sweep in the Amarpur and Karbook RD blocks.
Uchoi, the elected Member of District Council from the 25-Nutanbazar-Malbasa (ST) constituency of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), said people across the villages he had visited were enthusiastic about the long-awaited VC elections. The previous polls were held in 2016.
He said villagers were particularly pleased that the elections were finally being conducted and credited Maharaja Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma for the development.
According to Uchoi, the BJP, TMP and IPFT have reached a seat-sharing arrangement under the NDA alliance for the upcoming polls.
In Karbook, which has 22 Village Committees, Uchoi said TMP is contesting 19 seats while the BJP is contesting three. He claimed that TMP is confident of winning 18 of the 19 seats it is contesting, with one seat remaining a close contest. He further claimed that all 22 VCs would ultimately be won by the NDA alliance.
In Amarpur, which has 18 Village Committees, TMP is contesting 15 seats and BJP three, Uchoi said, claiming that the NDA alliance would win all 18 VCs.
On the opposition challenge, Uchoi identified the CPI(M) and some independent candidates as the main contenders but said he did not see any major threat to the alliance.
The seat-wise projections and claims regarding victory were made by Uchoi as his assessment of the electoral scenario ahead of the September 28 VC elections.
