CM Saha Says Govt Hospitals Are ‘Places of Trust’ as GB Hospital Gets New ICUs, Sterilisation Facility

Government hospitals are places of trust for the common people, Chief Minister Prof (Dr.) Manik Saha said on Monday, while inaugurating 18 new ICUs and a centrally controlled sterilisation facility at the Super Specialty Block of GB Hospital here.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Saha said the state government has planned to upgrade all government hospitals into corporate style, modern healthcare facilities, keeping in mind the needs and expectations of the common people. He said this would further strengthen people's confidence in government health services and reduce the tendency to seek treatment outside the state.

The Chief Minister said the government is not only working to improve healthcare services but also on strengthening medical education. He informed that work on the proposed Health University would begin soon.

Dr Saha said the government is sensitive and accountable to the people on matters of healthcare. He also stressed the need for doctors and other health workers to be more empathetic and courteous in their behaviour towards patients and their family members.

The Chief Minister further said the government is setting up green corridors to ensure that ambulances carrying critical patients can reach hospital emergency departments without delay.

Among those present at the programme were MLA Minarani Sarkar, Health Secretary Kiran Gitte, Principal of Agartala Government Medical College Dr Tapan Majumder, and Superintendent of GB Hospital Dr Bidhan Goswami.
