PM Modi Hands Over 51,000 Appointment Letters at Rozgar Mela

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday distributed more than 51,000 appointment letters to newly recruited candidates at the 20th Rozgar Mela, held across 45 locations in the country.

Addressing the event through video conferencing, Modi said the government has been focusing on equipping young people with the skills and opportunities required to meet the demands of a changing economy. He said efforts were also being made to expand employment opportunities in the private sector.

The Prime Minister highlighted the Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana, launched with an outlay of around ₹1 lakh crore. The scheme is expected to help nearly two crore young people enter the workforce for the first time. Under the initiative, eligible first-time employees can receive an incentive of up to ₹15,000, while employers are also being incentivised to create additional jobs.

Modi also said India’s Free Trade Agreements with nearly 40 countries in recent years were opening new markets and opportunities for entrepreneurs and creating new career prospects for young people.

Highlighting India’s startup ecosystem, he said the country is now the world’s third-largest startup ecosystem, with nearly half of recognised startups located in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities. He said young people from smaller cities and rural areas were increasingly contributing to the country’s emerging economy by launching businesses and creating employment opportunities.

Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions Jitendra Singh said an assessment of recruitment through the Rozgar Mela showed a significant rise in government appointments, along with greater transparency in the recruitment process.

According to Singh, nearly 10.96 lakh appointments were made during the 10 years of the NDA government through the Union Public Service Commission, Staff Selection Commission and Railway Recruitment Boards, compared with 7.22 lakh appointments during the UPA government.

The newly appointed candidates at the 20th Rozgar Mela will join various ministries and departments of the Government of India, including Finance, Railways, Home Affairs, Health and Family Welfare, and Defence.

With the latest Rozgar Mela, around 12.75 lakh young people have received appointment letters since the initiative was launched.
