A large python, measuring between 10 and 12 feet, was safely released into Bison National Park on Friday after forest officials rescued it from a paddy field in the Jalapathar area of Rajnagar assembly constituency, where its presence had caused a stir among locals.
According to reports, the python was first spotted by local farmer Bikram Das, a resident of Jalapathar, who was spraying pesticide in his paddy field on Friday morning. The snake suddenly came under his foot, leaving him panicked.
Word of the incident soon spread, and a large number of people from the surrounding area rushed to the paddy field. While some who saw the massive reptile were frightened, many others moved closer to get a look at it.
The matter was reported to officials of the wildlife wing attached to the Rajnagar Trishna Wildlife Sanctuary. Forest officer Sukanta Sarkar, along with other forest personnel, reached the spot after being informed.
The python was then carefully rescued from the field. It was later released safely at Bison National Park, it is learned.
