4.7 million liters of diesel arrive in Parbatipur via India-Bangladesh friendship pipeline

Nearly 4,000 metric tonnes (MT), or around 4.7 million litres, of diesel have reached the Parbatipur Receiving Terminal Depot in Bangladesh’s Dinajpur district from India through the India-Bangladesh Friendship Pipeline.

The latest shipment was the pipeline’s 72nd consignment. The transfer began at 9am on September 13 and was completed on September 15, Md Robiul Alam, operation manager of the Dinajpur-Parbatipur Rail Depot, said.

Under a bilateral agreement signed in 2018, Bangladesh agreed to import around 2 million tonnes of diesel from India over 15 years. Since the pipeline was inaugurated in March 2023, Bangladesh has imported 330,087 tonnes of diesel through the facility.

The imported fuel is distributed almost equally among three state-owned petroleum companies — Padma Oil, Meghna Petroleum and Jamuna Oil.

The Bangladesh section of the 131.57-km India-Bangladesh Friendship Pipeline is 126.57 km long and passes through Panchagarh, Nilphamari and Dinajpur before reaching the Parbatipur terminal.

The pipeline is designed to facilitate the transportation of petroleum products from India to Bangladesh, particularly strengthening fuel supplies to the country’s northern region.
