Melaghar Woman Accuses Post Office Agent Of Duping Her Of Savings Meant For Daughter's Marriage

A woman from Indiranagar area in Melaghar has lodged a complaint against a local agent, accusing him of collecting instalment money from her for years under the pretext of a post office savings scheme and misappropriating the funds.

The complainant, Ayesha Bibi, alleged that she had been saving money for the past 18 years for her daughter's future and marriage. According to her complaint, Amar Sheel, an agent and resident of Melaghar Thakurpara, took advantage of her being unable to read and write and enrolled her in an LIC scheme, telling her it was a post office savings plan.

Ayesha Bibi claimed that she was informed about the deposits regularly during the first few years. However, she alleged that Amar Sheel continued collecting monthly instalments from her afterwards without depositing the money in the concerned scheme, and instead deposited it into his own account.

The matter came to light after she sought the return of her savings, following which the situation reportedly worsened. She alleged that she was threatened with dire consequences whenever she tried to ask for her money back or attempted to meet the accused.

According to the complaint, Ayesha Bibi had saved the money over the years, keeping her daughter's future in mind, but the funds are now surrounded by uncertainty. Alleging fraud and misappropriation of money against Amar Sheel, she filed a written complaint at Melaghar police station on September 15, seeking justice.

The complainant further claimed that the accused has been untraceable since the complaint was filed. Police have started an investigation into the matter. The veracity of the allegations, where the money was actually deposited, and the exact amount misappropriated are expected to become clear once the investigation is completed. The complainant and local residents are now awaiting the outcome of the police probe.
