Over 200 donors took part in a voluntary blood donation camp organized by the BJP Yuva Morcha here on Sunday to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi's birthday, state party president Abhishek Debroy said after visiting the venue.
The camp was organized under the initiative of Sadar Town District Yuva Morcha functionaries, with a large number of young men, women and party workers coming forward to donate blood voluntarily.
Among those present at the camp were BJP Tripura state president Abhishek Debroy, Sadar district president Asim Bhattacharjee, along with other party leaders, councillors and functionaries.
Visiting the venue, Debroy said more than 200 donors had participated in the day's programme, and expressed satisfaction over the enthusiasm shown by people who came forward to donate blood voluntarily.
He said the Yuva Morcha had taken up the blood donation camp along with several other social and welfare programmes to mark the Prime Minister's birthday. According to him, similar blood donation drives were being held not only in Sadar district but across various parts of the state, including at different organizational headquarters.
Debroy further said the state was facing a shortage of blood, and that large-scale donation programmes of this nature would go a long way in addressing the deficit. Highlighting the importance of blood donation in saving lives, he thanked the Yuva Morcha for taking up such an initiative.
He also said that several more programmes had been planned for September 17 to mark the Prime Minister's birthday. According to him, a lamp-lighting programme would be organized at homes on that day, involving various beneficiaries, to pray for Modi's long life and good health.
Debroy added that Prime Minister Modi was leading the country on the path of development, and that the nation would progress further if he remained healthy and continued to lead for long.
The programme saw notable participation from Yuva Morcha workers, district leadership, councillors and other functionaries from the Sadar and Agartala areas. The party attached particular importance to linking the Prime Minister's birthday with a public service initiative through blood donation.
