Sheetal, Harvinder Lead India to Gold Haul

India signed off their campaign at the World Archery Para Series Stage III on a high, winning two gold and four bronze medals on the final day in Ahmedabad.

World No. 1 and reigning world champion Sheetal Devi clinched gold in the women’s individual compound event after holding her nerve in a dramatic shoot-off against Kazakhstan’s Aizada Seidan.

Reigning Paralympics champion Harvinder Singh, partnering Bhawna, added India’s second gold in the mixed team recurve event. The Indian pair produced a dominant performance to defeat China’s Liang Qiurong and Xia Lei 6-0 in straight sets.

Bhawna completed a memorable day by securing bronze in the women’s individual recurve event. In an all-Indian bronze-medal playoff, she defeated compatriot Rajshree Rathod 6-0.

India also secured two more individual bronze medals. Sarita edged China’s Wang Huiting to finish third in the women’s individual compound event, while world No. 1 Toman Kumar defeated Iraq’s Abbas Kadhim to win bronze in the men’s individual compound event.

Sheetal had earlier partnered Toman Kumar to win bronze in the compound mixed team event, giving her a second medal of the competition.

The strong finish in Ahmedabad underlined India’s growing strength in para archery, with the country’s leading archers combining for an impressive six-medal haul at the event.
