Ratan Urges People to Come Forward For Voluntary Blood Donation
Sep 09, 2026
Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath on Wednesday urged citizens across the state to come forward in greater numbers for voluntary blood donation, saying the government could provide funds and infrastructure but not blood itself, while attending a camp organised by the Mohanpur Electric Rickshaw Workers' Union.
Speaking at the camp, the minister said blood donation is one of the finest forms of human service, offering a person the direct opportunity to save another's life. He said people from every section of society should come forward voluntarily to donate blood.
Praising the initiative, Nath said blood has no religion, caste or creed, and that blood donated by one person can save the life of another, strengthening bonds of harmony, brotherhood and humanity among people.
The minister said only the general public, and not the government, could actually donate blood, and that this responsibility had to be taken up voluntarily by citizens.
He further informed that Tripura requires around 50,000 units of blood every year, while only about 42,000 to 45,000 units are typically collected, leaving a gap between demand and supply that needs to be addressed through greater voluntary participation.
Nath commended the Mohanpur Electric Rickshaw Workers' Union for organising the camp and said similar humanitarian programmes should be undertaken more widely by clubs, organisations, voluntary bodies and individuals. He extended his greetings and congratulations to all associated with the initiative.
The minister later attended an eye camp organised by the Rotary Club of Aspiring Agartala at a school in Mohanpur, where free check-ups, spectacles and medicines were provided to students and residents.
