South Tripura Police to Deploy 1,200 Personnel for Village Committee Polls

South Tripura police will deploy around 1,200 security personnel, including Central Armed Police Forces and Tripura State Rifles, across all polling stations in the district for the upcoming Village Committee Elections, Superintendent of Police Mourya Krishna C said at a crime conference in Belonia on Wednesday.

The conference, held at the SP Office Conference Hall, reviewed prevailing crime trends and the law and order situation in the district ahead of the TTAADC Village Committee Elections scheduled for September 28.

In South Tripura, polling will be held across 70 Village Committees, 306 constituencies and 538 seats, with 177 polling stations set up for the exercise. Statewide, the elections cover 587 Village Committees, 2,634 constituencies and 4,597 seats, with 9,61,977 electors on the final rolls and 1,550 polling stations. Voting will take place from 7 am to 4 pm, with counting scheduled for October 5.

According to the Superintendent of Police, polling stations have been categorised as hyper-critical, sensitive and normal, with security deployment graded accordingly. Block-level strong rooms will be secured with armed guard and round-the-clock surveillance.

Ahead of the polls, area domination exercises, mobile patrolling and intensified vehicle checking at nakas, including inter-district and border points, will be carried out to ensure peaceful elections. Preventive action is being taken against elements likely to disturb public peace, along with enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct and strict checks on illegal arms, narcotics, liquor and unaccounted cash.

The Superintendent of Police directed all SDPOs and Officers-in-Charge to act firmly against criminal elements and remain in close coordination with the civil administration and election machinery. Citizens may report any incident affecting public order to the District Police Control Room at 7628007079 or 112.

Additional Superintendent of Police, SDPOs, Officers-in-Charge and Headquarters officers attended the conference.
