The District Food Safety Officer carried out a hygiene and sanitation inspection drive at Halahali Bazar in Kamalpur, Dhalai district, on Tuesday, checking food preparation and storage practices at four sweet shops and three restaurants.
The inspection team examined whether the establishments were following prescribed hygiene and sanitary norms in the preparation, storage and serving of food items. According to officials, the drive was part of a broader effort to ensure safe food practices in the local market.
The inspection found that two of the food business establishments had not properly maintained the required hygiene and sanitary standards. Notices will reportedly be issued against these establishments under the applicable rules.
It was also learned that one establishment lacked proper arrangements for storing food items. Following this finding, authorities said necessary steps would be taken to impose a fine on the concerned food business owner under applicable laws and regulations.
During the visit, food business owners were specifically cautioned against using food colouring beyond the permitted limits in order to ensure food safety. They were also instructed to properly follow the prescribed hygiene, sanitary and food safety regulations while preparing and selling food.
District Food Safety Officer Bijoy Bhattacharjee said regular monitoring and inspection of food business establishments would continue in order to ensure safe and hygienic food for the public. He also called upon food business owners to comply with the applicable laws and regulations to ensure a safe food supply.
Officials indicated that similar inspection drives are likely to be carried out at other markets in the district in the coming days as part of ongoing efforts to safeguard public health.
