Tripura VHP Appeals for Disciplined, Traditional Durga Puja Celebrations

The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) Tripura unit has appealed to Puja organisers, devotees and the administration to ensure that Durga Puja celebrations across the state remain peaceful, disciplined and in keeping with traditional religious and cultural values.

Addressing a press conference in Agartala on Tuesday, VHP Tripura Prant Sangathan Mantri Shashikant Pandey urged Puja committees, priests, political leaders and devotees to maintain the sanctity and dignity of the festival by adhering to established religious customs.

Pandey raised particular concern over the playing of vulgar or inappropriate songs during idol processions and immersion ceremonies. He said such practices were not in keeping with the religious atmosphere and cultural significance of Durga Puja.

The VHP leader also appealed to Puja committees to avoid unnecessary road blockades and ensure that public movement is not disrupted during processions. He further urged devotees and participants to refrain from alcohol consumption and indecent behaviour during celebrations and immersion programmes.

Calling for greater responsibility from all stakeholders, Pandey urged Puja committees, priests, the administration and the media to work together to ensure that the festival is observed peacefully and respectfully across Tripura.

The Tripura VHP clarified that its appeal was not intended to oppose Durga Puja celebrations, but rather to encourage people to observe the festival while preserving its religious traditions, cultural values and dignity.

Pandey said the organisation hoped that Puja celebrations across the state would reflect the spirit of devotion, discipline and respect associated with the festival.
