52 Blocks, 4,597 Seats: Ratan Predicts Big NDA Win in Village Polls

With Village Committee elections set to be held across 4,597 seats in 587 villages spanning 52 of the state's 58 blocks, Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath on Monday projected a sweeping win of 90 to 95 percent of seats for the ruling NDA alliance, comprising the BJP, Tipra Motha and IPFT.

Speaking in an interview, the senior BJP leader said no area remains a permanent political stronghold, arguing that presenting positive work before the public can shift electoral equations over time. He noted that the Village Committee and three-tier panchayat elections are an extremely complex process to conduct.

Referring to the alliance's seat understanding with Tipra Motha and IPFT ahead of the polls, Nath said the arrangement was based on the results of the previous ADC election. He added that positive discussions on Tipra Motha's various demands had taken place in Delhi in the presence of the Union Home Minister and the Chief Minister.

According to Nath, the seat-sharing formula for the Village Committee elections was worked out within 10 to 12 hours of discussion, and party leadership has been instructed to resolve any local-level disputes through dialogue.

He said, "My personal belief is that out of 4,597 seats, the BJP, Tipra Motha and IPFT together will win 90 to 95 percent."

The minister clarified that the three parties would contest not as separate entities but as NDA alliance candidates, with campaigning focused on local issues such as drinking water shortages, road conditions and social welfare benefits, rather than state or national politics. He added that seat adjustments between BJP and Tipra Motha in select areas, including Kalyanpur and Raimavalley, were being worked out through local-level talks.
