Unemployed candidates who cleared the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) in 2024 staged a protest in Tripura on Monday, demanding that the state government release the merit list for graduate and postgraduate teacher posts and recruit all qualified candidates together.
The protest comes at a time when doubts are growing in Tripura over West Bengal's 450 fake B.Ed colleges, adding to the unease among job seekers awaiting recruitment in the state.
As part of their agitation, the candidates submitted a fresh deputation to the chairman of the Teacher Recruitment Board of Tripura (TRBT) on Monday, renewing their long-standing demands. Through the deputation, they demanded that the merit list for both graduate and postgraduate teacher posts be published without delay. They further demanded that the recruitment process for all eligible candidates be carried out together, rather than in phases.
According to the protesting candidates, this is not the first time they have approached the authorities with these demands. It is learned that they have submitted deputations on multiple occasions in the past, seeking a resolution to their long-pending grievances.
The candidates also said they had tried to meet the Chief Minister to raise the issue directly, but the attempt did not materialise.
Moreover, the protesters alleged that on every occasion they had met the TRBT chairman in the past, they were given false assurances instead of concrete action. They claimed that the government has deliberately stalled the recruitment process, leaving qualified candidates in uncertainty.
The TET-qualified job seekers said they would continue their protest until the merit list is published and recruitment is finalised for all eligible candidates together.
