2 UKNA Cadres Killed in Manipur Operation

Two cadres of the outlawed United Kuki National Army (UKNA) were killed and two others injured in a joint counter-insurgency operation by the Indian Army and Assam Rifles in Churachandpur district, security forces said.

The operation was launched in the jungle area near Phaibong village under Henglep Sub-Division based on specific intelligence about the presence of a UKNA camp, according to a statement issued by the Inspector General of Assam Rifles (South).

Security forces came under fire on September 2 while conducting the operation and engaged the armed cadres, who fled into dense vegetation, the statement said.

Two UKNA cadres were subsequently killed and two others injured in the operation. Security forces also recovered two MA rifles, one AK-56 rifle, one 40 mm Lathode gun, ammunition, magazines and other military stores.

Search operations are continuing in the surrounding jungle areas to track down and apprehend the fleeing cadres, the Assam Rifles said.
