Motha's Land Rights Draft to Be Ready in 15 Days, Says Ranjit
Sep 06, 2026
A draft aimed at implementing land rights for ADC residents is expected to be completed within 15 days, Tipra Motha MLA Ranjit Debbarma said on Sunday, following his return from a visit to Delhi where the matter was discussed with the Centre and the state government.
Speaking on the outcome of his Delhi visit, Debbarma said one of the main demands of their movement had been to secure land rights for people living in ADC areas. According to him, discussions on this demand have taken place with both the Central and state governments, and positive progress has been made towards its implementation.
He said a Central government delegation is expected to visit Tripura shortly. Members of the delegation will hold discussions with various social organisations and related bodies, and detailed talks will be held on matters concerning land rights in ADC areas, including the distribution of khas land.
Debbarma said that once the draft is finalised, the necessary amendments and administrative processes would be carried out to move ahead with the implementation of land rights. He added that land rights had been given priority among the key demands raised during discussions, claiming that its implementation had gained importance for both the Centre and the state.
Meanwhile, Debbarma also spoke about an important meeting concerning seat sharing between the BJP and Tipra Motha. He said that the two parties would assess their organisational influence in different areas before arriving at a decision on the matter.
It is learned that several Tipra Motha candidates have already filed their nominations. Debbarma said a decision on whether these nominations would remain unchanged or be revised in the interest of an alliance would be taken after further discussion, adding that there remains scope to take such decisions within the stipulated time even after nominations have been filed.
However, Debbarma made it clear that no final formula has yet been decided regarding the alliance or seat sharing arrangement. He said the distribution of seats would be decided based on where each party holds greater organisational influence at the local level.
Overall, Debbarma's remarks following his Delhi visit provided detailed information on the progress of the tripartite agreement. What changes this brings to the state's political equation in the days ahead remains to be seen.
