Minister Sushanta Chowdhury Launches Uber, Tourism Centre at MBB Airport

Tripura Transport and Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Thursday inaugurated app-based cab services by Uber and a Tourism Information Centre at Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) Airport, marking a major step towards modernising the state’s transport and tourism sectors.

The launch was simultaneously connected through a virtual programme with Agartala Railway Station and Jogendranagar Railway Station, bringing app-based cab services to three major transport hubs in the state.

The initiative is aimed at providing passengers and tourists with safer, easier and more convenient transportation options while reducing difficulties in arranging transport after arriving at the airport or railway stations. The Tourism Information Centre is expected to assist visitors with information related to tourist destinations and travel facilities.

Chowdhury said the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to using digital technology to improve public transport and tourism infrastructure. He said the objective is to make Tripura a modern, safe and tourist-friendly state.

The introduction of online cab services had been announced earlier by the Transport Minister, with the government stressing the need for a transparent and passenger-friendly transport system. Officials had also indicated that fare regulations would be put in place to prevent overcharging.
