Mohanpur Entrepreneur's Mushroom Spawn Unit Nets Rs 11,200 Daily Profit

A mushroom spawn production unit run by rural entrepreneur Rupali Dey of Mohanpur BMMU in West Tripura district is now producing around 280 kg of spawn daily, generating a turnover of approximately Rs 25,200 and a profit of about Rs 11,200 a day, according to the West Tripura District Administration.
Dey, a member of Joy Loknath Self Help Group (SHG) under Dasabhuja Cluster Level Federation (CLF), Mohanpur BMMU, started the enterprise with financial support of Rs 50,000, the administration said, adding that her determination, hard work and entrepreneurial spirit have driven the unit's growth.
According to the administration, the mushroom spawn is packed in 200 gram packets, with a production cost of around Rs 10 per packet and a profit of approximately Rs 8 per packet. The steady margin per unit, officials noted, has translated into a substantial daily turnover as production scaled up.
The enterprise has also created employment opportunities for local labourers, contributing to livelihood generation within the community, the district administration said.
Looking ahead, Dey plans to further expand her business by setting up a button mushroom production unit, according to the administration.
The district administration described her journey as a demonstration of how timely financial support, skills, determination and access to livelihood opportunities can empower rural women to build sustainable enterprises, create employment and achieve financial independence.
Officials said Dey's transformation from an SHG member to a successful rural entrepreneur reflects the wider impact of women-led enterprise on rural transformation in West Tripura, and is being highlighted as an example for other SHG members in the district to follow.
