ISKCON Agartala to Host Three Day Janmashtami Festival with Student Competitions, CM as Chief Guest

More than a thousand children and students are expected to take part in a series of competitions, including debate, fancy dress, Gita recitation and drawing, as ISKCON Agartala gears up for three days of celebrations from September 3 to 5, marking Janmashtami and the appearance day of ISKCON founder acharya Srila Prabhupada.
ISKCON Agartala will organize the three day celebration at the Purbasha premises, beginning with Janmashtami, the auspicious birth anniversary of Lord Sri Krishna, on September 3 and 4, followed by a special observance of Srila Prabhupada's appearance day on September 5. According to organizers, the celebrations will begin on September 3 at 4 pm with a colourful nagar sankirtan from the Purbasha premises, along with sankirtan processions across various parts of the city, collection of water for abhishek and other religious rituals. The evening will include an arati and adhibas ceremony.
On September 4, marking Janmashtami itself, various religious and cultural programs will continue from morning until midnight. Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha has been invited as the chief guest for the main program that day. Ministers Tinku Roy, Sushanta Chowdhury and Rajib Bhattacharjee, Sabhadhipati Biswajit Sheel, the Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation, MP Biplab Kumar Deb and other distinguished guests are expected to attend, and BJP state president Rajib Debroy has also been invited.
ISKCON representatives said the competitions for children and students, expected to draw over a thousand participants, will include debate, fancy dress, Gita shloka recitation and drawing, with prizes arranged for winners. To make the celebrations more engaging, ISKCON's Gaur Nitai band will perform kirtan during the Janmashtami programs on September 3 and 4, and again during the special abhishek ceremony on September 5.
According to ISKCON representatives, Janmashtami is being celebrated in nearly 140 countries around the world besides Tripura, and the Agartala event aims to build awareness of Indian culture, heritage and values among the younger generation, while also praying to Sri Krishna for peace, harmony and wellbeing in Tripura.
The celebrations will conclude on September 5 with a special abhishek ceremony marking the appearance day of Srila Prabhupada. ISKCON has appealed to the people of Tripura to take part in the three day celebrations.
