Panic at Belonia School as 13 Students Fall Ill During Class, Rushed to Hospital

Several students of North Bharatchandranagar Higher Secondary School in Belonia complained of breathing difficulty, convulsions and a burning sensation in the chest on Wednesday afternoon, triggering panic on campus as thirteen of them, twelve girls and one boy from class seven, were rushed to hospital.
According to reports, the students suddenly experienced breathing trouble and lost consciousness while classes were underway. Soon after, several more students began showing similar symptoms one after another. All thirteen affected students were taken to Belonia hospital for treatment, where they are currently undergoing medical care.
However, a section of parents alleged that the school's teachers did not act swiftly to take the students to hospital despite the number of ill students rising steadily, and they expressed anger over the school authorities' handling of the situation. The headmaster and other teachers reportedly rushed to the hospital only after the students had already been taken there.
Meanwhile, local sources said this is the second time such an incident has occurred at the school, a development that has caused concern among both parents and school authorities over the recurrence of similar cases.
On learning of the incident, the district education officer and the Belonia sub-divisional magistrate rushed to the hospital and the school. They inquired into the situation and sought detailed information regarding the treatment being given to the ill students.
It is not yet clear what caused so many students to fall ill at the same time. According to available information, the administration is looking into the matter to determine the exact cause behind the incident.
