Cricket: 15-member Indian men’s squad announced for three-match T20I against Afghanistan

India have announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming three-match T20 International series against Afghanistan, with Shreyas Iyer named captain and Tilak Varma appointed vice-captain.
The squad sees the return of pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah, subject to fitness clearance. Bumrah had missed India’s recent assignments after suffering a knee injury during the ODI series in England in July. Nitish Kumar Reddy, Washington Sundar and Harshit Rana have also been included in the squad.
The three-match series will be played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on the 13th, 15th and 17th of this month, with Afghanistan designated as the host nation.
India’s top-order features a blend of experience and youth, with Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan named in the squad. The middle order includes captain Iyer, vice-captain Tilak Varma and Shivam Dube.
India have three all-round options in Nitish Kumar Reddy, Axar Patel and Washington Sundar. Varun Chakaravarthy and Ravi Bishnoi will spearhead the spin department, while Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh will lead the pace attack, with Harshit Rana providing an additional option.
The squad largely mirrors India’s team for the upcoming Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, which are scheduled to begin on the 19th of this month.
