Flood Hits Two Serlui Villages
Sep 02, 2026Two villages in Mizoram’s Serlui constituency—North Chawnpui and Saihapui ‘K’—have been affected by flooding following heavy rainfall in the region, prompting residents in vulnerable areas to move to safer locations.
Water levels in the Serlui B Hydel Project reservoir have continued to rise after the heavy rain, raising concerns that the situation could worsen. Residents living in the lower parts of North Chawnpui have started relocating as a precautionary measure.
In Saihapui ‘K’, the Tuichhuahen river overflowed following the heavy rainfall, inundating parts of the village and forcing residents from affected areas to leave their homes.
No major damage or casualties have been reported so far. However, the steadily rising reservoir level has heightened concerns among residents in low-lying areas.
Serlui MLA Lalrinsanga Ralte has urged the Kolasib district administration to provide all possible assistance and support to people affected by the flooding.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation as the reservoir continues to receive water from the ongoing rainfall. Residents in vulnerable areas have been advised to remain cautious and move to safer locations if necessary.
