Amid Political Tension, BJP's Rajib Bhattacharjee Backs Speaker's Action Against Sudip Roy Barman

Amid heightened tension in state politics following a heated Assembly session, BJP's former state president and Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharjee held a significant press conference on Tuesday.
Addressing reporters at the BJP state office, he defended the Assembly Speaker's decision to expel opposition MLA Sudip Roy Barman and addressed questions on the party's ties with TIPRA Motha.
Bhattacharjee said adherence to parliamentary rules and discipline is essential for the smooth conduct of Assembly sessions. He said the Speaker's decisions and the Assembly's established rules deserve everyone's respect. His remarks came in the context of Monday's session, during which Roy Barman was expelled from the Assembly chamber following a heated situation.
He also criticized recent public statements made by CPI(M) state secretary Jitendra Chowdhury and former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, describing some of their comments as "tasteless" and against political decency. According to Bhattacharjee, political differences are natural in a democracy, but such differences should not lead to personal attacks or a deterioration of the political environment, and everyone needs to be mindful of that.
Meanwhile, he clearly rejected speculation about a possible political understanding between the BJP and TIPRA Motha, saying no discussion has taken place between the two parties on the matter so far. He claimed that reports or speculation about talks or a meeting between the two parties currently have no basis.
Bhattacharjee said the BJP would continue its political activities within a democratic framework while maintaining discipline in the Assembly.
The press conference is considered significant given the prevailing tension and mutual sparring in state politics centred on the recent Assembly session, with Bhattacharjee clarifying the party's position on the Speaker's decision, the opposition leaders' statements, and the possible political equation between the BJP and TIPRA Motha.
