TRLM Sets Up Three Poultry Hatching Units Across Tripura

The Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM) is setting up three Poultry Egg Hatching Units in the state, aimed at strengthening the poultry value chain.
The units are coming up at Durgachowmuhani in Dhalai, Tepania in Gomati and Satchand in South Tripura, at a combined investment of Rs 2.40 crore.
According to TRLM, each unit has been built at a cost of ₹80 lakh and will have the capacity to produce approximately 34,000 quality chicks per cycle. Once all three hatcheries become operational, they are together expected to produce around 1.02 lakh chicks per cycle.
It is learned that construction has been completed and machinery procured at the Durgachowmuhani unit in Dhalai and the Tepania unit in Gomati, while work on the Satchand unit in South Tripura is still in progress.
TRLM said the initiative will ensure the local availability of quality chicks and reduce dependence on external sources, thereby cutting transportation costs for poultry farmers in the state.
Moreover, it is expected to strengthen the poultry value chain within Tripura and create greater income opportunities for self-help group (SHG) members and poultry entrepreneurs.
SHG members and entrepreneurs form a key part of the rural livelihood network that TRLM works with across the state.
The initiative has been described as a step towards stronger livelihoods, local production and a self-reliant Tripura, with the three hatcheries expected to significantly reduce the state's reliance on chicks sourced from outside once they become fully functional.
