Two villagers were killed and another injured after suspected militants opened fire on a village in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district on Monday morning, officials said.
The attack took place around 9:30 am at N Teikhang, a Kuki-inhabited village under T Waichong subdivision, when armed men allegedly opened indiscriminate fire using sophisticated weapons, according to a district official.
The deceased were identified as 35-year-old Lamtinthang and Neichin. A 65-year-old villager, Seilun, was also injured after being hit by a bullet.
The incident has raised fresh concerns over security in the violence-affected district. Further details about the attack and the identity of those responsible were not immediately available.
