CPI(M), Congress Stages Placard Protest in Tripura Assembly Over Alleged Missing Suicide Note

Congress and CPI(M) MLAs staged a placard protest in the well of the Tripura Assembly on Monday after Speaker Rampada Jamatia stopped Congress legislator Sudip Roy Barman from raising the issue of the alleged missing suicide note linked to former DGP Anurag Dhankar's death.
The incident took place on the last day of the current session of the Tripura Assembly, just before the start of Question Hour, when Sudip Roy Barman brought up the matter in the House.
He claimed that Anurag Dhankar's wife, who arrived in Tripura on Sunday, had wanted to see the alleged suicide note and said she possessed a photograph of it. Roy Barman alleged that the original document had since been removed and concealed.
However, Speaker Rampada Jamatia intervened, stating that the issue could not be raised in the House in this manner. He pointed out that Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha had already spoken on the matter twice in the Assembly.
The Speaker appealed to Barman not to create confusion, asked him to return to his seat, and called for proceedings to continue as per Assembly rules.
Following the Speaker's ruling, tension escalated further. Congress and CPI(M) legislators descended into the well of the House with placards in hand and began raising slogans demanding an investigation and clarity on the whereabouts of the alleged suicide note.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ratan Lal Nath then intervened to control the situation, requesting the Speaker to allow Question Hour to continue. He also proposed that the opposition be given a separate opportunity to raise the issue after the scheduled business was completed.
Following the minister's intervention, opposition MLAs withdrew their protest and returned to their seats, allowing normal proceedings to resume in the House. The episode further intensified the political debate surrounding the existence of the alleged suicide note linked to Anurag Dhankar's death and how it has been handled. The opposition has already raised several questions regarding the actual cause of the incident and the progress of the investigation.
