Teachers are selected for felicitation without regard to caste, religion or political affiliation, state convenor Manoj Roy said at a press conference held by Bidhan Shishu Udyan Medha Onneshan at the Press Club on Monday, ahead of a teacher honouring ceremony scheduled for September 8.
The press conference was organised by Bidhan Shishu Udyan Medha Onneshan, a prominent social organisation in the state, ahead of the upcoming Teachers' Day. Present at the event were the organisation's state convenor and noted teacher Manoj Roy, along with executive members Parikshit Dey and Pankaj Roy.
According to Roy, the teacher felicitation ceremony will be held at 12 noon on September 8 at the hall of Khudiram Bose English Medium School in the capital. He said five eminent journalists would also be honoured at the event.
It is learned that since 2023, the organisation has been felicitating eight distinguished teachers, one each from the state's eight districts, every year. Alongside teachers, eminent doctors, sportspersons and personnel from the traffic department are also given recognition at the ceremony.
MLA Abhishek Deb Roy, patron of Bidhan Shishu Udyan Medha Onneshan, will preside over the September 8 event, with other dignitaries expected to attend as guests.
Roy further stated that every year, the organisation honours meritorious teachers in the selection process, without consideration of caste, religion or political affiliation. Meanwhile, the organisation's teacher felicitation initiative has generated considerable discussion within teaching circles in the state.
