Lallianzuala Chhangte Named Indian Footballer of the Year

Mizo footballer Lallianzuala Chhangte has been named the Indian Footballer of the Year 2026, earning the prestigious honour through votes from his fellow players.
The 29-year-old forward, who recently moved from Mumbai FC to Mohun Bagan, received the award from Indian football legend Bhaichung Bhutia at a ceremony held last night.
The award is organised by the Football Players Association of India (FPAI) and is decided through voting by professional footballers. Chhangte had previously won the honour for the 2023–24 season, making his latest recognition his second Footballer of the Year award.
Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma congratulated Chhangte on the achievement, describing it as a proud moment for the state.
The Mizoram Football Association also hailed the award as a significant achievement for Mizo football, saying Chhangte’s success would inspire the next generation of footballers in the state.
Chhangte’s latest honour further cements his position as one of India’s leading footballers and among the most prominent players to emerge from Mizoram.
