180 Women Get Sewing Machines as CM Pushes Self-Reliance Drive

The state government is continuously working to build a self-reliant and developed Tripura through employment generation and women's empowerment, Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha said at a programme held at Muktadhara Auditorium here on Sunday, where he handed over offer letters to 16 newly appointed fire department drivers and sewing machines to 180 women beneficiaries.
"Employment generation, skill development, women's empowerment and delivering fast and effective services to the common people remain among the government's key objectives," Dr. Saha said.
Congratulating the newly appointed drivers, he said, "Joining government service is not merely an employment opportunity, it is a great responsibility to dedicate oneself to public service with honesty, sincerity and hard work." He also wished them well for their new careers.
The programme also saw initiatives for women's self-reliance and financial empowerment, with 180 trained women beneficiaries from the Agartala Municipal Corporation area receiving sewing machines from the Chief Minister, along with a stipend of Rs 2,000 each.
"This initiative will play an important role in making women self-reliant and financially empowered. Using the skills gained through training, women will be able to create income opportunities for themselves, which will also help improve their socio-economic condition," Dr. Saha said.
From the same programme, the Chief Minister virtually inaugurated the newly constructed fire station at Manubankul in Sabroom, the state's 52nd fire station, expressing hope that it would fulfil a long-standing demand of the people in Sabroom and adjoining areas and help ensure quick response during fire and other emergencies.
Minister Santana Chakma, Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Dipak Majumder, Secretary Kiran Gitte and other officials were present. Earlier, those present also listened together to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Mann Ki Baat' broadcast at the venue.
