Vande Bharat between Agartala and Guwahati proposed; Sabroom awaits new train services

The Tripura government has submitted a proposal to the Railway Ministry seeking the introduction of a Vande Bharat Express between Agartala and Guwahati to strengthen rail connectivity between Tripura and Assam.
The issue came up in the Tripura Legislative Assembly on Thursday in response to questions raised by MLAs Gopal Chandra Roy, Dipankar Sen and Mailafru Mog. The Transport Department informed the House that a proposal for the Agartala-Guwahati Vande Bharat service had been sent to the General Manager (Open Line) of Northeast Frontier Railway at Maligaon on July 23.
Transport Minister also submitted a similar proposal to the Union Railway Minister on August 3, seeking the introduction of the semi-high-speed train service between the two cities.
However, several demands concerning rail connectivity in southern Tripura remain pending. The state government has not yet sent any proposal to operate Humsafar, Tripura Sundari and Garib Rath Express trains from Sabroom. Similarly, no proposal has been submitted for introducing metro services on the Agartala-Udaipur-Belonia and Agartala-Kailashahar routes.
The demand for a direct train service from Sabroom to Silchar, which could particularly benefit residents of South Tripura seeking better access to healthcare and other essential services, has also not yet been formally placed before the Railway Ministry.
The Transport Department, however, stated that if such demands are formally raised from different quarters of the state, proposals would subsequently be sent to the concerned ministry for consideration.
The development comes amid growing demands for improved and more accessible rail connectivity across Tripura, particularly for passengers from the southern districts.
